Our company has roots back to 1988 as a continuation of ABB Marine in Ølensvåg and the acquisition of Uni Automation in 2004. For years, we delivered reliable marine electrical and automation systems across the industry.
Solid foundation. Proven technology. But we saw the industry changing.
In 2015, we shifted our focus and invested fully in hybrid power and automation solutions. It started with Viking Energy—the world's first platform supply vessel with battery hybrid notation from a classification society.
That project proved that zero-emission systems could deliver both environmental benefits and operational savings. Real fuel reduction. Real emission cuts. Real profitability.
In 2024, we acquired Austevoll Elektro, adding in-house production capacity. Today, SEAM employs 250 people and is one of the region's largest competence centers for electrical and automation engineering.
The company has maintained steady 20% annual growth and today delivers systems for over 35% of the Norwegian ferry market. We're world-leading in future-ready power and automation solutions.
Our work has earned recognition from industry organizations and partners:

Hanwha Engine is particularly recognized for being the first in the world to commercialize dual-fuel engines for low-speed vessels, and was integrated into the Hanwha Group in 2024.
With the acquisition of SEAM, Hanwha Engine completes its product portfolio by adding electric propulsion and power automation – technologies that are increasingly in demand as international environmental requirements continue to tighten.
