The modern operation of vessels requires operating of multiple complex systems and adapting to increasingly complex situations.

The concept of operation simplification hence is a valuable design philosophy in addressing the need to facilitate crew adaptation and training for rapid assimilation into their required operational roles. An intuitive system is proposed in e-SEAMatic® where complexity in platform integration requirements is compensated by simple and logical operation. Since the system opens for integrating the various processes of the vessel into a single operator environment, all information is available in one place, regardless from where or what process it belongs.

Modularity and scalability

e-SEAMatic® is scalable in terms of both breadth of system control and monitoring and in depth of complexity. The system is also designed to be modular in terms of system functionality. This means that the system is geared towards economic upgradeability and flexible customization, achieved via an open architecture. This allowing the user to access all or parts of the architecture without any proprietary constraints.

Selection of non-proprietary COTS (Commercial off-the-shelf) equipment that are modular and with long support life simplifies the deployment of this system on various new-builds, and also existing craft in the format of retrofit projects. This will imply that there will be possibilities to scale up or down the backbone architecture to any vessel (with minimal loss of functionality) while having the interface flexibility to integrate any new third-party system into e-SEAMatic®.

Redundancy

e-SEAMatic® IAS has redundancy implemented in terms of operator stations, controllers, network and power supply according to customer- and class demand. e-SEAMatic® is scalable in depth of complexity the required level of redundancy applied to the system will vary according to the importance of tasks undertaken by the system. Essential systems will use redundancy to achieve high availability while non-important systems can be designed with less or no redundancy means at all. The architecture is adapted to vessel-, equipment- and system demand for redundancy groups.

The system is provided with self-diagnostic functionality, and together with System Software Recovery, maintenance and service can be executed during runtime.

Software safety and quality assurance

Software safety analysis of the e-SEAMatic® software is undertaken during the development of the software. An efficient and reliable automatic project generation is assured using our comprehensive project tool named e-SEAMatic® Toolbox.
